5 Signs it’s Time to Visit the Dentist
Regular dental examinations are one of the most important things at the top of your health list. Whether dental phobia, lack of insurance, a busy schedule or faith that everything is fine with your teeth is keeping you from the dentist, professional dental care should not be avoided for an extended period of time. Here are some signs that it’s time to see a dentist:
Toothache
Toothache pain is one of the most excruciating things and can really affect your daily life. If you’re experiencing constant pain for weeks or months, then maybe you should schedule an appointment at the dentist. The pain can be due to inflammation due to a cavity, infection or a variety of other reasons. Your dentist will be the best to tell you the exact cause and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
Bad Breath
Bad breath is expected after a garlicky meal or a cup of coffee. But, if it persists after brushing and flossing, there is probably something else going on. Bad breath could be a sign of gum disease, a dental cavity or other medical condition. Stop bad breaths by visiting the dentist and letting him or her diagnose the exact root of the problem.
Jaw Pain
If you’re suffering from jaw pain, you might be grinding your teeth while sleeping. It’s also possible that a cavity is triggering jaw pain or there is accumulation of bacteria that have settled to the root of the teeth, which can eventually lead to an abscessed tooth if left untreated. The pain may subside but if it comes back, then make sure to rush back to the dentist for another check-up.
Irritated Gums
If you see red when brushing your teeth, you’re either brushing too hard or there is something wrong with your gum tissue. Advanced gum disease, also known as periodontitis, affects 47.2% of adults over 30 and usually cause occasional bleeding of the gums. Look out for this warning sign as well as redness, swelling and loose permanent teeth.
Dry Mouth
Finally, dry mouth can be more than just dehydration. If your mouth is not producing enough saliva, then your mouth cannot fight against infection and bacteria. A dentist can help you identify the cause of your dry mouth and recommend solutions to this problem.
Seeing a dentist can sometimes be forgotten but it is an important part to be and stay healthy.
